26 LC 129 1497 House Resolution 1843 By: Representatives Rhodes of the 124th, Burns of the 159th, Corbett of the 174th, Smith of the 138th, Hatchett of the 155th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Representative Lynn Smith; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Representative Lynn Smith has long been recognized by the citizens of this2 state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment3 to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and4 WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,5 talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced6 dramatically by her superlative service with the Georgia House of Representatives; and7 WHEREAS, Representative Smith was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in8 1996; and 9 WHEREAS, during her tenure, Representative Smith has championed landmark legislation,10 including the Water Stewardship Act, the creation of the Regional Water Plans, and revisions11 to the Brownfield Act; and 12 H. R. 1843 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1497 WHEREAS, she currently serves as chairman for the House Natural Resources and13 Environment Committee, and champions sound environmental polici es that protect the14 environment as well as the economy of Georgia; and 15 WHEREAS, she also serves on the Appropriations, Rules, Reapportionment, Small Business16 Development, Economic Development and Tourism, and Creative Arts and Entertainment17 Committees as well as the Special Committee on Resource Management; and 18 WHEREAS, in addition to state committees, Representative Smith served as chair of the19 Southern Legislative conference Energy and Environment Committee, is the Vice Chairman20 of the Southern States Energy Board, and is a member of the National Conference of State21 Legislators; and 22 WHEREAS, Representative Smith has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia23 House of Representatives, and her vision and unyielding commitment to the citizens of the24 State of Georgia will be sorely missed upon the occasion of her retirement.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body recognize and commend Representative L ynn Smith for her27 efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of and extend the most28 sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to31 Representative Lynn Smith.32 H.
