26 LC 112 3880 Senate Resolution 1011 By: Senators Strickland of the 42nd, Goodman of the 8th, Jackson of the 41st, Payne of the 54th, Parent of the 44th and others A RESOLUTION Commending the American Red Cross and recognizing March 2026 as Red Cross Month;1 and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, in March, we celebrate Red Cross Month by honoring our neighbors who make3 its humanitarian mission possible in Georgia; every day, their acts of kindness change lives,4 bringing relief, comfort and hope when help can't wait. This compassionate spirit runs deep5 in our community, just as it has for 145 years through the American Red Cross; and6 WHEREAS, those who serve with the Georgia region light the way during emergencies,7 whether it's delivering shelter, food, and comfort after disasters; providing a safe, lifesaving8 blood supply for patients facing conditions such as cancer trea tments, childbirth9 complications, and traumatic injuries; assisting military members, veterans, and their families10 with 24/7 global support; or empowering individuals with skills like first aid and CPR that11 save lives; and12 WHEREAS, in 2025, Red Cross volunteers from Georgia responded to local disasters and13 deployed to national disasters, including the Los Angeles wildfires and Typhoon Halong in14 Alaska. The Red Cross helped over 12,900 individuals affected b y more than 2,700 local15 S. R. 1011 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3880 disasters such as home fires in Georgia by addressing their urg ent needs, including food,16 lodging, and recovery support; and17 WHEREAS, the more than 4,200 Red Cross of Georgia volunteers have also supported their18 communities in other ways. Last year, across the state, the Red Cross of Georgia collected19 more than 188,000 units of blood at over 8,100 blood drives and donor centers, in addition20 to more than 42,100 units of platelets and 1,400 units of plasma that helped save lives. The21 Red Cross team has also supported those in the United States mi litary, veterans, and their22 families through more than 15,800 case services; furthermore, the organization also trained23 more than 99,900 people in first aid, CPR, AED, and water safety courses; and24 WHEREAS, preparedness is a vital part of the Red Cross mission and, along with25 community partners, the organization helped to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries last26 year by installing over 6,000 smoke alarms in vulnerable homes and assisting residents with27 fire escape plans as part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign; and28 WHEREAS, these collective efforts are a powerful reminder that the strength of our29 community lies in our shared commitment to one another. As we mark Red Cross Month, let30 us celebrate our local heroes and resolve to continue lifting each other up so no one faces an31 emergency alone.32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body33 commend the American Red Cross for its efforts and recognize Ma rch 2026 as Red Cross34 Month.35 S.
