A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Dr. Stephanie Johnson for her dedica ted service to the1
Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE); and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Johnson, a native of Chatom, Alabama, ha s served with3
excellence by way of her commitment to prioritizing education, students, and families4
through her membership as the Georgia Department of Education's Deputy Superintendent5
for School and District Effectiveness since July 2017; and6
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Johnson's leadership has been recognized statewide through her7
position as Chief Turnaround Officer of GaDOE since 2017, where she specializes in8
statewide school improvement, educational equity and accessibil ity, and student9
achievement; and10
WHEREAS, she has been a proponent for education through her ser vice as a successful11
turnaround School Principal of Sequoyah Middle School, Jonesbor o High School, and12
Maynard Jackson High School—following her position as Assistant Principal of Morrow13
High School and Lead Guidance Counselor of Mount Zion High School; and14

WHEREAS, her academic accolades include graduating with a Bache lor of Arts in15
Psychology and English from the University of Alabama, completing a Master of Education16
in Secondary Education and English Language Arts from the University of West Alabama,17
several leadership certificates and educational degrees from th e University of South18
Alabama, and obtaining her Doctor of Education in Educational L eadership and19
Administration from Capella University; and20
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Johnson extends her commitment to uplift ing the community21
through her various presentations at annual professional conferences, including the Georgia22
Council for Exceptional Children in 2025, the GaDOE Federal Pro grams Conference in23
2024, and the Georgia Compensatory Educational Leadership Annual Conference in 2024;24
and25
WHEREAS, she has received multiple honors, awards, and forms of recognition. Dr.26
Stephanie Johnson was featured in the Hidden Heroes video segme nt by the Georgia27
Leadership Institute for School Improvement, recognized as an Outstanding Georgia Citizen28
and Goodwill Ambassador for the State in 2016, awarded the Georgia 2017 Servant Leader29
Award, 2017 Greatest Influential Leader in Changing a Community Award from Georgia30
House of Representatives, awarded the 60 for 60 Honorees from the University of Alabama31
Alumni Association in 2023, awarded the APS Chief of Schools Principal Award in 2017,32
awarded the Georgia Principal of the Year Award in 2016, etc.33
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body34
recognize and commend Dr. Stephanie Johnson for her outstanding service, leadership, and35
advocacy in the realms of education and youth development.36

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed37
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Dr. Stephanie38
Johnson.39
