26 LC 129 1436 House Resolution 1851 By: Representatives Burnough of the 77th, Glaize of the 67th, Cannon of the 58th, Scott of the 76th, Schofield of the 63rd, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Sandra Lee Williams; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Sandra Lee Williams has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for2 the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep p ersonal commitment to the3 welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and4 WHEREAS, Sandra serves as the President of the Atlanta North Georgia Labor Council and5 the Deputy Political Director for the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union; and6 WHEREAS, she is on the Executive Board of the Cherokee County N AACP, where she7 initiated a STEM Scholarship and was a recipient of the National Benjamin Hooks, Keeper8 of the Flame Award; the Executive Board of the Cherokee County Georgia Democratic9 Party; the Democratic Party of Georgia; and is a member of the Democratic National10 Committee; and11 WHEREAS, she also sits on the Boards of WorkSource Atlanta, WorkSource Cobb, Georgia12 Alliance for Progress, and the transportation oversight committees for the City of Atlanta and13 the State NAACP; and14 H. R. 1851 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1436 WHEREAS, Sandra's significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience15 and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state16 have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and17 WHEREAS, Sandra has served with honor and distinction as a human resource executive for18 both private and public entities, and her vision and unyielding commitment to advocating for19 working families, criminal justice reform, and fair and equitable access to opportunities for20 minorities and women in the workforce have set the standard for excellence in leadership and21 public service; and22 WHEREAS, a champion for immigrant rights, Sandra has coordinated immigration clinics23 with her union the RWDSU/UFCW that provided pro bono legal assistance and stipends to24 assist with citizenship application fees; and25 WHEREAS, recognizing the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sandra worked26 with several trade unions to develop a training program to get workers certified on forklift27 operations and OSHA 10 hour Safety training, partnered with the Atlanta North Georgia28 Labor Council to establish a food distribution program in conju nction with local food29 pantries, and organized health fairs and screenings to address health disparities in the30 community; and31 WHEREAS, in response to the indifference experienced by workers in Georgia, Sandra32 initiated job fairs across the state in conjunction with the Ge orgia AFL CIO, the Solicitor33 General Office of Fulton County, and various labor councils and community organizations34 such as the NAACP, Georgia Stand Up, and the Urban League of Greater Atlanta; and35 H. R. 1851 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1436 WHEREAS, she is currently working with local unions to create a Worker Bill of Rights as36 well as planning the first black worker center in Georgia with several community and labor37 affiliates; and38 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this39 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.40 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that41 the members of this body recognize and commend Sandra Lee Willi ams for her efficient,42 effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to the State of Georgia and extend the most sincere43 best wishes for continued health and happiness.44 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized45 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to46 Sandra Lee Williams.47 H.
