26 LC 61 0503 House Resolution 1895 By: Representatives Adeyina of the 110 th, Jones of the 25th, Tran of the 80th, Evans of the 57th, and Thomas of the 21st A RESOLUTION Recognizing the importance of voluntary community based resource recovery efforts through1 the RESCUER initiative and the utilization of digital platforms to facilitate food sharing2 within local communities; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, communities across Georgia regularly discard edible food while individuals and4 families within those same communities may experience food insecurity; and5 WHEREAS, the concept known as the Georgia Resource Exchange and Sharing for6 Community Uplift and Emergency Resilience (RESCUER) initiative promotes voluntary7 community based sharing of edible food through digital platform s that connect local8 residents, food banks, restaurants, grocery stores, and other r etailers within a local9 community; and10 WHEREAS, voluntary food recovery efforts can reduce food waste while expanding access11 to edible food within local communities; and12 WHEREAS, many communities have expressed interest in voluntary programs that connect13 local residents, food banks, restaurants, grocery stores, and other retailers to facilitate food14 sharing; and15 H. R. 1895 - 1 - 26 LC 61 0503 WHEREAS, digital platforms can assist communities in organizing voluntary food sharing16 programs while allowing participation to be limited to members of a local community; and17 WHEREAS, voluntary coordination among community members can str engthen local18 resilience, reduce unnecessary food waste, and support efforts to address hunger within local19 communities.20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21 the members of this body recognize the importance of voluntary community based resource22 recovery efforts through the RESCUER initiative and the utilization of digital platforms to23 facilitate food sharing within local communities.24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized25 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the26 public and the press.27 H.
