26 LC 129 1097 House Resolution 1937 By: Representatives Paris of the 142nd, Washburn of the 144th, Griffin of the 149th, Glaize of the 67th, Herring of the 145th, and others A RESOLUTION Commending Dr. Dan A. Sims; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dr. Dan A. Sims currently serves as Superintendent of the Bibb County School2 District, where he draws upon his more than 30 years of dedicated service to public education3 in Georgia to advance student engagement, strengthen community partnerships, and promote4 academic growth; and5 WHEREAS, he began his educational career in the Fulton County School System, and after6 over two decades of school-level and district-level leadership, he joined the Atlanta Public7 School System as Associate Superintendent of Schools; and8 WHEREAS, during his six-year-long tenure, he supported principa ls, guided strategic9 planning efforts, participated in district-level budgeting, aligned departments and resources10 to improve school operations, and oversaw key organizational divisions; and11 WHEREAS, Dr. Sims has further contributed to educational improvement through consulting12 roles with the Barbados Ministry of Education, Birmingham City Schools, Yazoo City13 Schools, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and the Tucson Unified School District; and14 H. R. 1937 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1097 WHEREAS, he has shown equal commitment to his community through leadership positions15 in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., where he was named National Brother of the Year, and16 through service on the boards of the Principals Center at Georg ia State University, the17 Reigning Hope Foundation, the Macon Affordable Housing Commission, the National Youth18 Book Conference, and the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon; and19 WHEREAS, Dr. Sims has been recognized with numerous honors for his educational20 leadership and community service, including Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year21 awards, humanitarian recognitions from multiple civic organizations, the Fulbright Memorial22 Fund Scholar distinction, and the W.E.B. DuBois Award for Excellence in Education; and23 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distingu ished individual be24 appropriately honored for his many remarkable contributions on behalf of the youth of this25 state.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body commend Dr. Dan A. Sims for his decades effective, efficient, and28 dedicated educational service as well as extended the most sincere best wishes for continued29 success.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.32 Dan A.
