A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Shephard Green III; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its distinguished citizens with the2
passing of Shephard Green III; and3
WHEREAS, born to Shephard Green Jr. and Carrie Mae Green, Shephard Green III attended4
C.L. Harper High School, where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1969,5
distinguished himself as a star athlete, and developed a lifelong love for football; and6
WHEREAS, his professional career began in the financial sector at Nations Bank, after7
which he devoted his life's work to education and coaching, bec oming widely known as8
"Coach Green" at Clairmont Elementary School in Decatur, Georgia; and9
WHEREAS, through his work as a coach in football, basketball, and baseball across Amateur10
Athletic Union programs, recreational leagues, and Decatur High School, he mentored11
countless young people and served as a positive influence in their lives; and12

WHEREAS, following his retirement from the school system in 201 4, he served as an13
assistant doorkeeper for the Georgia State Senate, contributing to the daily operations of the14
state capitol and fostering meaningful relationships with those he encountered; and15
WHEREAS, he was blessed with five remarkable children, Sheprease, Aqueelah, Shephard16
IV, Zarinah, and Sakari, as well as seven wonderful grandchildren, Davina, Joshua, Elijah,17
Jarvis Jr., Zyir, Zen, and Kaleb; and18
WHEREAS, beyond his professional contributions, Shephard Green III was known for his19
love of sports, particularly as the "Ultimate Fan" of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as for his20
storytelling, generosity, and innate ability to bring people together; and21
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Shephard Green III w ill long be22
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who23
had the great fortune of knowing him.24
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory o f Shephard Green III and26
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the29
family of Shephard Green III.30
