A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life of F.H.P. Trooper Charles Eugene "Gene" Campbell and dedicating a road1
in his memory; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, F.H.P. Trooper Charles Eugene "Gene" Campbell was highly regarded by the3
citizens of his community and state and by local government off icials as a person of4
unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and5
WHEREAS, Trooper Campbell ably served as a Florida Highway Patr ol Officer with an6
exceptional career in law enforcement that spanned nine years; and7
WHEREAS, his life was tragically cut short on November 16, 1974, after being abducted and8
taken hostage during a traffic stop in Perry, Florida; and9
WHEREAS, Trooper Campbell always put public safety first during his exceptional career10
of public service, and his inspiring commitment to the welfare of others stands as a shining11
example of the positive effect law enforcement professionals ha ve on the lives and12
well-being of others; and13

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished14
Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.15
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL16
ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 247 from th e bridge over Big17
Indian Creek in Houston County to Buck Creek Road in Pulaski County is dedicated as the18
F.H.P. Trooper Charles Eugene "Gene" Campbell Memorial Highway.19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and20
directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the F.H.P. Trooper Charles21
Eugene "Gene" Campbell Memorial Highway.22
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized23
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the24
family of F.H.P. Trooper Charles Eugene "Gene" Campbell and to the Department of25
Transportation.26
