26 LC 112 4073 Senate Resolution 1035 By: Senators Parent of the 44th, Harbison of the 15th, Orrock of the 36th, Jones of the 10th, Davenport of the 17th and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Nelson I. Adelman; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Nelson I. Adelman on February 26, 2026; and3 WHEREAS, Nelson I. Adelman was born in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York,4 and his early years revolved around his passion for the Brooklyn Dodgers and his Orthodox5 Hebrew School education; and6 WHEREAS, after his family moved to Queens, he secured a full athletic scholarship to New7 York University, where he received his degree in business and captained his college's track8 and cross country teams; and9 WHEREAS, Nelson I. Adelman served as a guardian of this nation' s freedom and liberty10 with the United States Army Reserves, valiantly and courageousl y protecting his fellow11 Americans during the Cuban Missile Crisis; and12 S. R. 1035 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4073 WHEREAS, after moving to Atlanta in 1971 with his growing family, he became a devoted13 Braves fan and founded the Adelman Sales Corporation, which bec ame highly successful14 under his exceptional leadership; and15 WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Donna, and was blessed with16 two remarkable sons, David and Mark; five wonderful grandchildren, Oscar, Leah, Avery,17 Justice, and Ellis; and a magnificent great-grandson, Chase; and18 WHEREAS, during his residence in Atlanta, he actively served the community as a member19 of Congregation Shearith Israel and Ahavath Achim as well as a Little League coach at20 Morgan Falls in Sandy Springs, where he coached both of his sons; and21 WHEREAS, his son, David, served in the Senate from 2003 to 2010 and became the22 Ambassador to Singapore; and23 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation24 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he25 made this world a better place in which to live; and26 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Nelson I. Adelman wi ll long be27 remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who28 had the great fortune of knowing him.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 join in honoring the life and memory of Nelson I. Adelman and e xpress their deepest and31 most sincere regret at his passing.32 S.
