26 LC 112 4042 House Resolution 1892 By: Representatives Burnough of the 77th, Scott of the 76th, Bell of the 75th, Flournoy of the 74th, and Schofield of the 63rd A RESOLUTION Recognizing September 2026 as Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Mon th; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive and irreversible brain disorder and the most3 common form of dementia, affecting memory, thinking, behavior, and the ability to carry out4 daily activities; and5 WHEREAS, it is estimated that approximately 10-12 percent of adults aged 65 and older are6 living with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia, impacting a significant number7 of residents and families within Clayton County; and8 WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease not only affects individuals diagn osed but also places9 emotional, physical, and financial demands on caregivers, famil ies, and the broader10 community; and11 WHEREAS, Clayton County recognizes the importance of fostering a dementia-friendly12 community that promotes awareness, understanding, inclusion, an d accessibility for13 individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia; and14 H. R. 1892 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4042 WHEREAS, the Dementia-Friendly Clayton Initiative seeks to crea te supportive15 environments across all sectors—including healthcare, transport ation, public safety,16 businesses, and community organizations—ensuring that individuals living with dementia17 can remain engaged, respected, and supported in their daily lives; and18 WHEREAS, Clayton County Senior Services, in collaboration with community partners,19 continues to lead efforts in education, caregiver support, and the development of programs20 that enhance quality of life and promote independence for older adults; and21 WHEREAS, Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month provides an opportunity to educate the22 public, reduce stigma, encourage early detection, and recognize the dedication of caregivers,23 professionals, and advocates who support those affected.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25 the members of this body recognize September 2026 as Alzheimer' s Disease Awareness26 Month.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the29 public and the press.30 H.
