26 LC 129 1482 House Resolution 1931 By: Representatives Gambill of the 15th, Scoggins of the 14th, Lumsden of the 12th, Dempsey of the 13th, and Gullett of the 19th A RESOLUTION Recognizing July 4, 2026, as Georgia Highlands College Community Impact Day; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the United States of America celebrates the 250th anniversary of its founding3 in 2026, marking two and a half centuries of liberty, opportunity, and the enduring promise4 of education as a pathway to a better future; and5 WHEREAS, Georgia Highlands College, founded in 1970, has proudly served the people of6 Northwest Georgia for more than 50 years, providing accessible, high-quality education and7 transforming lives through learning; and8 WHEREAS, over the past five decades, Georgia Highlands College has served more than9 250,000 community members, empowering individuals and families through opportunity,10 workforce preparation, and academic achievement; and11 WHEREAS, in just the past three academic years, students have c ompleted more than12 250,000 credit hours, demonstrating the continued demand for education and the dedication13 of the college's students, faculty, and staff; and14 H. R. 1931 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1482 WHEREAS, over the last twelve years, the college has offered mo re than 25,000 courses,15 strengthening the workforce and expanding opportunities for communities across the region;16 and17 WHEREAS, more than 2,500 graduates have joined the proud ranks of Georgia Highlands18 College alumni in the past three years, contributing their talents and leadership to businesses,19 healthcare systems, schools, and communities throughout Georgia; and20 WHEREAS, Georgia Highlands College has generated a combined economic impact of more21 than $2.5 billion over the past fifty years, demonstrating its vital role in strengthening the22 regional economy and supporting the prosperity of the State of Georgia.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24 the members of this body recognize July 4, 2026, as Georgia Highlands College Community25 Impact Day, honoring the college's extraordinary service to stu dents, families, and26 communities while celebrating this milestone alongside the 250th anniversary of the United27 States of America.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to30 Georgia Highlands College.31 H.
