A RESOLUTION
Commending John Haupert for his outstanding service as Presiden t and Chief Executive1
Officer of Grady Health System upon the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, John Haupert has served with exceptional leadership as President and Chief3
Executive Officer of Grady Health System in Atlanta since October 2011, guiding one of the4
nation's most vital safety-net healthcare systems with vision, integrity, and unwavering5
commitment; and6
WHEREAS, over the course of his distinguished 15-year tenure, M r. Haupert has7
transformed Grady Health System into a more financially stable and sustainable institution,8
ensuring its continued ability to provide high-quality care to the residents of Fulton and9
DeKalb counties and the broader metropolitan Atlanta community; and10
WHEREAS, under his leadership, Grady has strengthened its position as a premier healthcare11
provider and as a Level I trauma center and burn center, delive ring lifesaving care and12
advancing excellence through nationally recognized clinical services, including the Marcus13
Neuroscience and Stroke Center, the Correll Cardiac Center, the Georgia Cancer Center for14
Excellence, Hughes-Spalding Children's Hospital, and Grady EMS, one of the largest15
hospital-based emergency medical services agencies in the United States; and16

WHEREAS, Mr. Haupert has played a pivotal role in advancing med ical education and17
training, with Grady serving as the primary clinical training site for the Morehouse School18
of Medicine and the Emory University School of Medicine, thereb y shaping future19
generations of healthcare professionals; and20
WHEREAS, his tenure has been marked by visionary planning and s trategic growth,21
including the development and advancement of a new $900 million hospital campus in South22
Fulton, which will expand access to care and strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the23
region; and24
WHEREAS, even upon his retirement at the end of 2026, Mr. Haupert has demonstrated his25
continued dedication by committing to serve in an advisory capacity through 2027 to support26
the successful completion of the South Fulton campus project an d ongoing fundraising27
efforts; and28
WHEREAS, Mr. Haupert's exemplary leadership has earned national recognition, including29
his service as Chair of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees and his receipt30
of the prestigious American College of Healthcare Executives Gold Medal in 2023; and31
WHEREAS, through his steadfast commitment to service, innovation, and community health,32
John Haupert has left an indelible mark on Grady Health System and the State of Georgia,33
improving the lives of countless individuals and strengthening the healthcare safety net for34
generations to come.35
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body36
commend John Haupert for his extraordinary leadership, dedicate d service, and lasting37

contributions to healthcare in Georgia and extend their best wi shes for a fulfilling and38
well-deserved retirement.39
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed40
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to John Haupert.41
