A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Mr. Don A. Grantham and dedicating an interchange in his honor; and for other1
purposes.2
WHEREAS, Mr. Don A. Grantham has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for3
the vital role that he plays in leadership in this state and his deep personal commitment to the4
welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5
WHEREAS, a Georgia native, Mr. Grantham was raised in Augusta and graduated from the6
Academy of Richmond County before attending Augusta College and ultimately earning a7
bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia; and8
WHEREAS, Mr. Grantham and his wife Mrs. Carol Willcox Grantham have built their lives9
and raised their family, including their daughter Zoe Grantham Gawrych and son Don A.10
"Dag" Grantham Jr., in their hometown of Augusta, a family that is now blessed with four11
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and12
WHEREAS, with an abiding devotion to their faith, he and his wife are active members of13
Trinity on the Hill Global Methodist Church and remain committed to the betterment of not14
only their hometown and community but also their state and nation; and15

WHEREAS, Mr. Grantham launched his career in the lumber sector at the Georgia Pacific16
Corporation and ultimately cofounded the Forest Sales Corporation in 1968, holding the role17
of President and CEO for 48 years until 2018; and18
WHEREAS, an engaged community lead er, Mr. Grantham's extensive volunteer service19
includes his past presidencies of the Exchange Club of Augusta, Augusta Country Club, and20
Augusta Gold Association and his service with the Boy Scouts of America Advisory Board21
of Augusta, Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce, YWCA Board of Di rectors, Augusta22
Museum of History Board of Directors, Augusta Arts Council, University Health Foundation23
Board, and Medical College of Georgia Foundation at Augusta University; and24
WHEREAS, comprising more than a half century of gubernatorial a ppointments and25
electoral successes, his public service roles include multiple terms on the Georgia Ports26
Authority Board as well as the Richmond County Commission, the Richmond County27
Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals, and election to multiple terms on the State28
Transportation Board representing the 12th Congressional district; and29
WHEREAS, Mr. Grantham presently holds the unique distinction of having served as the30
Chairman of the Georgia Ports Authority Board and subsequently the State Transportation31
Board leading initiatives to make our state's port a national and international leader as well32
as significantly advancing regional and state investment in tra nsportation through the33
implementation of the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 and the Transportation34
Funding Act of 2015; and35
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this36
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recogniz ed by dedicating an37
interchange in his honor.38

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL39
ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the interchange of Interstate 20 and I nterstate 520 in40
Augusta-Richmond County is dedicated as the Chairman Don A. Grantham Interchange.41
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and42
directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Chairman Don A. Grantham43
Interchange.44
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized45
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to46
Mr. Don A. Grantham and the Department of Transportation.47
