A RESOLUTION
Urging appropriate state and local authorities to transfer oper ation of the Georgia Capitol1
Museum from the University System of Georgia to the Georgia Building Authority; and for2
other purposes.3
WHEREAS, the Georgia Capitol Museum preserves the history of the Georgia State Capitol4
as well as the events that have taken place within its halls since its construction completed5
on July 4, 1889; and6
WHEREAS, the museum collects, maintains, and exhibits significa nt artifacts, including7
historic flags and works of art, and offers educational tours to visitors and school groups; and8
WHEREAS, the Georgia Building Authority is responsible for mana ging the facilities9
located in the Capitol Hill Complex, including the Georgia State Capitol; and10
WHEREAS, the Georgia Building Authority is appropriately equipp ed to fund, manage,11
maintain, and staff the Georgia Capitol Museum and its historical assets as well as to perform12
other such duties and functions as are ordinarily exercised for its successful operation.13

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that14
the members of this body urge the appropriate state and local authorities to transfer operation15
of the Georgia Capitol Museum from the University System of Geo rgia to the Georgia16
Building Authority.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized18
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the19
public and the press.20
