26 LC 112 4067 House Resolution 1936 By: Representative Gunter of the 8th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Union County as the Sorghum Capital of Georgia; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Union County, Georgia, has been involved with the prod uction of sorghum2 syrup since the 1850s; and3 WHEREAS, Union County has hosted sorghum festivals for over 57 years dating back to its4 inaugural festival in 1969, preserving the Appalachian heritage and tradition of sorghum5 production in the mountains; and6 WHEREAS, the farmers and sor ghum producers in Union County have been recognized7 nationally for the quality of the sweet sorghum they produce; and8 WHEREAS, Union County sorghum syrup continues to be included in many of our favorite9 foods and beverages as a sweetener and flavoring, ensuring that the rich heritage of sorghum10 production and the county's agricultural roots will continue to grow; and11 WHEREAS, generations of sorghum farmers in Union County have contributed greatly to12 the tourism and economic impact in the State of Georgia.13 H. R. 1936 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4067 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that14 the members of this body recognize Union County as the Sorghum Capital of Georgia in15 honor of its historic agricultural legacy.16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized17 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the18 public and the press.19 H.
