26 LC 112 4076 House Resolution 1962 By: Representatives Holly of the 116th, Cannon of the 58th, McQueen of the 61st, Lewis-Ward of the 115th, Neal of the 79th, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., upon its 90 th anniversary; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, on December 5, 1935, the illustrious Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune founded the3 National Council of Negro Women, Inc., (NCNW) to harness the co llective strength and4 voices of women of African descent to achieve justice and equality; and5 WHEREAS, the NCNW has since flourished into a powerful network with more than 26 million people, sustained by the enduring legacy of President E merita Dr. Dorothy Irene7 Height, and it is currently led with distinction by National Board Chair Dr. A. Lois Keith and8 President and CEO Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley; and9 WHEREAS, the organization remains anchored by its "Core Four" s trategic pillars:10 Education (Bethune-Height Changemaker Pathway), Health Equity ( Good Health WINs),11 Economic Justice (RISE), and Social Justice advocacy; and12 WHEREAS, the Georgia State Coalition, re-envisioned in 2016 under the leadership of Dr.13 A. Lois Keith and now led by State President Dr. Gloria Dodson, maintains a robust presence14 across the state through 13 community sections and 19 collegiate sections; and15 H. R. 1962 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4076 WHEREAS, the year 2025–2026 marks the 90th anniversary of this storied institution,16 celebrated through the 15-city "PowerUp Tour" and the recogniti on of champions such as17 Congresswoman Maxine Waters at the 19th Biennial Uncommon Height Honors Gala.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that19 the members of this body honor the National Council of Negro Wo men, Inc., for 90 years20 of "Leading, Outreaching, and Uplifting" as well as celebrate the dedication of the Georgia21 State Coalition and its commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders from the22 collegiate halls to the community streets.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the25 National Council of Negro Women, Inc.26 H.
