26 LC 129 1454 House Resolution 1965 By: Representatives Lim of the 98th, Beckles of the 96th, Reeves of the 99th, and Clark of the 108th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Sylvia Goalen; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Sylvia Goalen has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital2 role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal co mmitment to the welfare of3 the citizens of Georgia; and4 WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,5 talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced6 dramatically by her over 15 years of superlative service as the Division Director of Traffic7 Safety and Roadway Operations; and8 WHEREAS, Sylvia's significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience9 and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state10 have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and11 WHEREAS, during her tenure as the Division Director of Traffic Safety and Roadway12 Operations, Sylvia has led leadership in traffic safety program s; expanded community13 outreach and education by representing the Department of Transportation on public forums,14 including Spanish-language radio, keeping residents informed ab out roadway safety,15 H. R. 1965 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1454 maintenance, transit, and construction updates; and coordinated multi-department16 transportation projects, including roadway safety improvements, maintenance coordination,17 and community-requested traffic calming measures; and18 WHEREAS, in addition to her astute leadership in Traffic Safety and Roadway Operations,19 Sylvia is a dedicated and passionate advocate for literacy; and 20 WHEREAS, serving as Board Chair for a literacy nonprofit as well as on the Board for the21 Gwinnett County Public Schools Community-Based Mentoring Progra m, she has helped22 launch initiatives such as the Gusanito Book Festival, literacy camps, and parent23 empowerment conferences to promote reading and cultural representation; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this25 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize and commend Sylvia Goalen for her efficient, effective,28 unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of and extend the most sincere best wishes29 for continued health and happiness.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appr opriate copy of t his resolution ava ilable for distribution to32 Sylvia Goalen.33 H.
