26 LC 112 4054 House Resolution 1986 By: Representatives Bell of the 75 th, McQueen of the 61st, Holly of the 116th, Berry of the 56th, and Cannon of the 58th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Goodie Mob for their outstanding con tributions to music,1 culture, and social consciousness; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the history of hip-hop is enriched by legendary artist s and groups whose3 creativity and influence have shaped the culture; and4 WHEREAS, among these, few have demonstrated the innovation, ins ight, impact, and5 inspiration of the Atlanta based musical group known worldwide as Goodie Mob; and6 WHEREAS, Goodie Mob, consisting of Big Gipp, Cee Lo, Khujo, and T Mo, was formed7 in 1991 as a core member of the influential hip-hop collective known as the Dungeon Family,8 alongside notable artists including Outkast, Witchdoctor, Backbone, Big Rube, Cool Breeze,9 and P A, under the guidance of the acclaimed production team Organized Noize; and10 WHEREAS, under the musical direction of Organized Noize, Goodie Mob emerged as one11 of the first Southern hip-hop groups to achieve national recognition in the 1990s, helping to12 elevate Atlanta as a global center of musical excellence; and13 H. R. 1986 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4054 WHEREAS, their groundbreaking 1995 debut album Soul Food has been widely recognized14 as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, praised by m ajor publications for its15 masterful fusion of soul, funk, gospel, and hip-hop, coupled wi th socially conscious and16 thought provoking lyrics; and17 WHEREAS, Goodie Mob's enduring catalog, including Still Standing, World Party, One18 Monkey Don't Stop No Show, and Age Against the Machine, has transcended generations,19 continuing to inspire artists and audiences alike; and20 WHEREAS, their influence can be seen in numerous artists across generations, including21 Outkast, Future, EarthGang, Lil Baby, Big K R I T, and Travis Scott, solidifying their legacy22 as pioneers of Southern hip-hop; and23 WHEREAS, the group's music has long addressed critical social i ssues, including mass24 incarceration, police brutality, racism, and political repression—themes that remain relevant25 and impactful in today's society; and26 WHEREAS, their commitment to using music as a tool for awarenes s and empowerment27 reflects a dedication to uplifting communities and encouraging unity and understanding; and28 WHEREAS, Goodie Mob continued this mission with the release of their album Survival Kit,29 offering both reflection and guidance during challenging times, providing listeners with30 messages of resilience, unity, and hope; and31 WHEREAS, through powerful works such as "Are You Ready," "For M y People," and32 "Frontline," the group continues to inspire civic awareness, social engagement, and collective33 responsibility; and34 H. R. 1986 - 2 - 26 LC 112 4054 WHEREAS, Goodie Mob's legacy stands as a testament to the power of music to educate,35 uplift, and transform society, while firmly establishing the State of Georgia as a cornerstone36 of global cultural influence.37 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that38 the members of this body recognize and commend Goodie Mob for t heir immeasurable39 contributions to music, culture, and social consciousness as well as their role in shaping the40 identity and global impact of Atlanta and the State of Georgia.41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized42 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to43 Goodie Mob.44 H.
