26 LC 129 1509 House Resolution 1990 By: Representatives Ali of the 106th, Adeyina of the 110th, Okoye of the 102nd, Romman of the 97th, and Beckles of the 96th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Roberto Vargas; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Roberto Vargas has long been recognized by the citizen s of this state for the2 important role he has played in the development and education of young athletes; and3 WHEREAS, Roberto is the founder of La Liga Lawrenceville, a youth and adult recreational4 and community soccer league based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Gwinnett County; and5 WHEREAS, founded in February 1998, the league currently operates with over 160 teams6 for both adults and children; and7 WHEREAS, La Liga Lawrenceville is the most recognized and activ e soccer league for8 Spanish speakers in Gwinnett County; and9 WHEREAS, involvement in athletics helps build confidence, resilience, and discipline, skills10 that extend far beyond the playing field; and11 WHEREAS, La Liga Lawrenceville has provided access to community based, athletic12 programs that strengthen social connections and promote a sense of belonging and unity; and13 H. R. 1990 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1509 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that La Liga Lawre nceville and Roberto14 Vargas are commended for the indelible impact that the league h as made on the State of15 Georgia.16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that17 the members of this body recognize and commend Roberto Vargas and extend their sincere18 best wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized20 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to21 Roberto Vargas.22 H.
