26 LC 129 1507 House Resolution 1953 By: Representatives Bell of the 75 th, Berry of the 56th, Holly of the 116th, McQueen of the 61st, and Myles of the 126th A RESOLUTION Recognizing the excellence of Morehouse College Athletics and h onoring the Southern1 Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship teams; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Morehouse College has long stood as a pillar of academ ic excellence,3 leadership, and the holistic development of young Black men; and4 WHEREAS, the Morehouse College Athletics Department continues t o embody the5 institution's mission by cultivating discipline, integrity, and competitive excellence among6 its student-athletes; and7 WHEREAS, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) represents one of the8 most historic and competitive athletic conferences among HBCUs; and9 WHEREAS, during the most recent athletic season, the Morehouse College mens basketball10 team demonstrated exceptional skill, resilience, and teamwork, culminating in a conference11 championship victory and bringing honor to the institution; and12 H. R. 1953 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1507 WHEREAS, the Morehouse College track and field team showcased outstanding athleticism13 and dedication, achieving championship distinction within the SIAC and continuing a proud14 tradition of excellence in track and field; and15 WHEREAS, these achievements reflect not only athletic success b ut also the discipline,16 scholarship, and character instilled in Morehouse men; and17 WHEREAS, the accomplishments of these teams serve as a source of pride and inspiration18 for the campus community, alumni network, and the broader Atlanta community.19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that20 the members of this body recognize and commend the Morehouse Co llege Athletics21 Department for its continued commitment to excellence in intercollegiate athletics. 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that special recognition is given to the Morehouse College23 mens basketball team as well as the Morehouse College track and f i e l d t e a m f o r t h e i r24 outstanding achievements as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions during25 the most recent season.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the28 Morehouse College Athletics Department, the Morehouse College mens basketball team,29 and the Morehouse College track and field team.30 H.
