HR1977: HR1977 Morgan County boys basketball team; winning the 2026 GHSA Class AA State Basketball Championship; commend

26 LC 129 1498 House Resolution 1977 By: Representatives Anderson of the 10th and Fleming of the 114th A RESOLUTION Congratulating the Morgan County boys basketball team for winning the 2026 GHSA Class1 AA State Basketball Championship; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Morgan County boys basketball team has established and maintained a3 proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and academics; and4 WHEREAS, this superlative team has completed another triumphant season of basketball5 competition, ending the season with a 20 game winning streak; and6 WHEREAS, excellent play, superior teamwork, and extraordinary resilience made this team7 a spectacular one to observe throughout the season, and as a fitting finale to its remarkable8 2026 campaign, the team captured its fourth state basketball championship; and9 WHEREAS, the team brought special recognition to its school and to Morgan County,10 having several individual athletes earn prestigious awards and recognitions; and11 WHEREAS, this all-star team included AA State Player of the Year, AA State Championship12 MVP, AA All-State Selection, and Region 2-AA Player of the Year , Zeki Locus; AA13 All-State Selection and Region 2-AA 1st Team Selection, Trey Ca rter; Region 2-AA 1st14 H. R. 1977 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1498 Team Selections, Kobi Jefferies and Garrett Ward; Region 2-AA 2nd Team Selection, Jacoby15 Simmons; as well as Region 2-AA Honorable Mention Selections, King Hardy and Dreylon16 Brown; and17 WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding18 athletic ability, dedication, hard work, and unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the19 team; its superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of Head Coach and20 GHSA Class AA Coach of the Year Cody Anderson; and21 WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by22 performing with courage and precision over months of training a nd competition, it is23 abundantly proper to call them champions.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25 the members of this body congratulate the Morgan County boys basketball team for winning26 the 2026 GHSA Class AA State Basketball Championship and extend best wishes for their27 continued success.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the30 Morgan County boys basketball team.31 H.
