26 LC 112 4081 House Resolution 1959 By: Representatives Reese of the 140th, Crawford of the 89th, Willis of the 55th, Miller of the 62nd, and Olaleye of the 59th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and honoring the cultural legacy and contributions of Field Mob; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Shawn Jay and Smoke, collectively known as Field Mob, are proud natives of3 Albany, Georgia, who have emerged as pioneering voices representing South Georgia and4 rural Georgia communities on a national stage; and5 WHEREAS, during a time when few artists from rural South Georgi a had access to6 mainstream platforms, Field Mob broke barriers and created a pathway for future generations7 of artists from underserved and overlooked communities across South Georgia; and8 WHEREAS, through their music, including culturally impactful wo rks such as "Georgia"9 featuring Ludacris, Field Mob uplifted the identity, struggles, and resilience of people10 throughout rural South Georgia, providing authentic representation of Southern life, culture,11 and lived experience; and12 WHEREAS, their success in the late 1990s and early 2000s brought national recognition not13 only to Albany but also to rural Georgia communities collective ly, establishing them as14 cultural ambassadors for regions often excluded from mainstream visibility; and15 H. R. 1959 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4081 WHEREAS, it is important to honor living legends and cultural contributors while they are16 still able to receive their flowers, particularly as Shawn Jay courageously faces a serious17 health battle with stage four cancer; and18 WHEREAS, it is both fitting and necessary to acknowledge the en during impact, artistic19 excellence, and cultural legacy of Field Mob, whose voices helped shape the sound and story20 of Georgia as a whole.21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that22 the members of this body recognize and honor the lasting contri butions of Shawn Jay and23 Smoke as well as their roles as pioneers, cultural leaders, and representatives of South24 Georgia and rural Georgia communities.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized26 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Shawn27 Jay and Smoke.28 H.
