A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending former President Barack Obama on the opening of the Obama1
Presidential Center; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, has dedicated his life3
to public service, civic engagement, and the advancement of democratic ideals both within4
this nation and across the globe; and5
WHEREAS, born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii, President Obama rose from6
humble beginnings to become a historic and transformational lea der, graduating from7
Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as the first African8
American president of the Harvard Law Review; and9
WHEREAS, prior to his presidency, he served as a community organizer on the South Side10
of Chicago, a civil rights attorney, a constitutional law profe ssor, and a member of the11
Illinois State Senate and the United States Senate; and12
WHEREAS, during his presidency from 2009 to 2017, President Oba m a led the nation13
through one of the most challenging economic recoveries in modern history, expanded access14

to healthcare through the Affordable Care Act, strengthened int ernational alliances, and15
championed equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all Americans; and16
WHEREAS, President Obama made history as the first African American president of the17
United States, inspiring millions across generations and around the world to believe in the18
power of hope, unity, and civic responsibility; and19
WHEREAS, the opening of the Obama Presidential Center marks a significant and historic20
milestone, serving not only as a presidential library but also as a dynamic campus designed21
to inspire leadership, community engagement, and social impact for generations to come; and 22
WHEREAS, located in Jackson Park on the South Side of Chicago, the Obama Presidential23
Center will include a museum, library, public gathering spaces, and programming initiatives24
focused on developing the next generation of leaders and change-makers; and25
WHEREAS, through the work of the Obama Foundation, the center w ill foster global26
citizenship, civic innovation, and youth leadership, continuing President Obama's enduring27
commitment to empowering individuals and strengthening communities.28
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29
the members of this body recognize and commend former President Barack Obama upon the30
grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center as well as extend best wishes for continued31
health and happiness.32
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the34
public and the press.35
