26 LC 129 1518 Senate Resolution 1072 By: Senator Bearden of the 30th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Donald Newman; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Donald Newman has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the2 vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare3 of the citizens of Georgia; and4 WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,5 talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced6 dramatically by his 44 consecutive years of service on the Mount Zion City Council; and 7 WHEREAS, he is believed to be the longest-serving city council member in the State of8 Georgia and was recognized at the age of 85 as one of the oldest currently serving council9 members; and10 WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Donald Newman is an active member of Five11 Points Baptist Church in Waco, Georgia, where he has served as Choir Director, Sunday12 School Teacher, Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the Cemetery Committee, as well13 as Secretary and Treasurer; and14 S. R. 1072 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1518 WHEREAS, his commitment to Mount Zion and Carroll County extend s far beyond city15 council service, as he also served 44 consecutive years on the Board of Directors of the16 Carroll County Water Authority where he played a key role in re storing the Mount Zion17 municipal water system; and 18 WHEREAS, furthermore, Donald Newman is one of the original foun ders and served as 19 Chairman of the Board of the Mt. Zion/Carroll County Primary Health Care Clinic; and20 WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for21 integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and22 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this23 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 recognize and commend Donald Newman for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated26 public service to the State of Georgia.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Donald Newman.29 S.
