26 LC 112 4131 House Resolution 1998 By: Representative Scott of the 76th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and legacy of Mother Annie Eliza Brim Hughes; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Mother Annie Eliza Brim Hughes was born on July 6, 1927, in Leon County,2 Florida, to the late Nazareth and Annie Eliza Brim, and she dep arted this life on May 20,3 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and unwavering love; and4 WHEREAS, she was educated in the Leon County School System, and at an early age, she5 developed a deep and abiding faith, joining Testerina Primitive Baptist Church, where she6 remained a devoted and active member throughout her life; and7 WHEREAS, on June 23, 1946, she was united in holy matrimony to Elder Leonard Hughes,8 and from this union four children were born, forming a strong and loving family foundation9 rooted in faith and commitment; and10 WHEREAS, Mother Hughes dedicated her life to service, working t irelessly in both11 caregiving and domestic roles, including her service as a nursi ng assistant at Los Alamos12 Medical Center and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility, where she13 demonstrated compassion and care for all those she served; and14 H. R. 1998 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4131 WHEREAS, her faith in God was evident through her faithful service in Testerina Primitive15 Baptist Church and her participation in the Old West Florida Primitive Baptist Association,16 where she served diligently, including as chair of the Mother's Board for many years; and17 WHEREAS, she was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, and loyal friend known18 for her generous spirit, her love of singing in the choir, her gift of knitting, and her ability to19 bring people together through fellowship and love; and20 WHEREAS, Mother Hughes was affectionately known as "Sing," and she uplifted those21 around her with words of encouragement, often reminding others, "God is in control and I'm22 depending on Him," reflecting the peace and strength she carried within her; and23 WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Elder Leonard24 Hughes, and her son, Cornell B. Hughes; and25 WHEREAS, she leaves to cherish her memory her children, grandchildren, extended family,26 and countless individuals whose lives were touched by her kindness, faith, and service; and27 WHEREAS, Mother Annie Eliza Brim Hughes lived a life of purpose, faith, and devotion,28 and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body honor and recognize the remarkable lif e and legacy of Mother31 Annie Eliza Brim Hughes and extend their deepest sympathy to her family and loved ones.32 H.
