A RESOLUTION
Honoring Robert "Bob" Brown on the occasion of his 80th birthday; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Brown was born on March 31, 1946, in the town of Jellico in East2
Tennessee; and3
WHEREAS, as he celebrates his 80th birthday, it is fitting to r ecognize a life marked by4
service, dedication, and an enduring commitment to others; and5
WHEREAS, after completing high school, Bob answered the call to serve his country by6
enlisting in the United States Army, serving honorably for 15 months in Vietnam, including7
during the Tet Offensive, and earning the Bronze Star for his courage and sacrifice; and8
WHEREAS, upon returning home in 1968, Bob made Georgia his home and began a long9
and distinguished career with General Motors, working at the Lakewood plant in southeast10
Atlanta and later at the Doraville plant, where he dedicated 35 years of service before retiring11
in 2003; and12

WHEREAS, Bob continued his commitment to public service when he joined the Georgia13
State Senate in 2017 as a doorkeeper, serving under Sergeants-at-Arms John Long and Jerry14
Cooley; and15
WHEREAS, in recognition of his dedication, leadership, and inte grity, Bob was elected16
Sergeant-at-Arms of the Georgia Senate in the 2023 Legislative Session; and17
WHEREAS, Bob has demonstrated a deep and abiding passion for the Georgia State Capitol18
and the Georgia State Senate, generously sharing his knowledge, stories, and appreciation19
for its history and architecture with visitors, many of whom ha ve remarked on the lasting20
impression he leaves; and21
WHEREAS, beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob enjoys ca mping, hiking as a22
longtime member of the Over-the-Hill Hiking Club, and gardening , having served as23
president of the Buckhead Men's Garden Club; and24
WHEREAS, known for his warm and welcoming spirit, Bob has never m e t a s t r a n g e r ,25
forming lasting friendships through simple acts of kindness and conversation; and26
WHEREAS, his life stands as a testament to service, community, and genuine human27
connection, and his 80 years have left an indelible mark on all who have had the privilege28
of knowing him.29
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30
honor and commend Robert "Bob" Brown on the joyous occasion of his 80th birthday and31
extend their sincerest congratulations and best wishes for many more years of health,32
happiness, and continued service.33

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed34
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Robert "Bob"35
Brown.36
