26 LC 112 4152 Senate Resolution 1074 By: Senator Halpern of the 39th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of David Apple Jr., MD; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, David Apple Jr., MD, was an 89-year-old Atlanta resident who was married to2 Jane Apple for 63 years; had four children, Stephanie, Karen, David, and Megan; and was3 grandfather to 12 grandchildren; and4 WHEREAS, he helped co-found the Shepherd Center in 1975 with Alana, Harold, and James5 Shepherd; and6 WHEREAS, Dr. Apple served as the Shepherd Center's medical dire ctor for 31 years,7 helping people with spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and other neurological injuries and8 conditions return home to their families, to their careers, and to the things they love; and9 WHEREAS, he founded the Shepherd Center's Recreation Therapy Pr ogram, helping10 thousands of patients find passion and purpose after injury or illness; and11 WHEREAS, he was a renowned expert in his field, leading researc h, helping found12 professional organizations and journals, and mentoring generati ons of clinicians and13 scientists; and14 S. R. 1074 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4152 WHEREAS, he changed the world of rehabilitative medicine and ev eryone he met with15 heart, humor, and an unshakable belief in what is possible.16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body17 join in honoring the life and memory of David Apple Jr., MD, and express their most sincere18 appreciation for his contributions to medicine and humanity.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed20 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to the family of21 David Apple Jr., MD.22 S.
