26 LC 112 4166 House Resolution 2040 By: Representative Scott of the 76th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Mr. Jack Leslie for his extraordinary service and dedication1 to the safety and well-being of students and families in DeKalb County; and for other2 purposes.3 WHEREAS, Mr. Jack Leslie has faithfully dedicated more than 25 years of service to the4 DeKalb County community as a School Crossing Guard, ensuring th e safety of countless5 students and families with vigilance, care, and consistency; and6 WHEREAS, prior to his role as a Crossing Guard, Mr. Leslie serv ed honorably with the7 DeKalb County Public Safety Department and later joined the DeK alb County School8 District, where he has been a trusted and respected presence su pporting faculty, staff,9 students, and families across several South DeKalb schools; and10 WHEREAS, Mr. Leslie's commitment to public service spans more t han four decades,11 including a distinguished 41-year career with the City of Atlanta, from which he retired as12 a supervisor, exemplifying leadership, integrity, and professionalism; and13 H. R. 2040 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4166 WHEREAS, even in retirement, Mr. Leslie continued to serve othe rs as a K-Mart door14 greeter before pursuing his passion for school safety, demonstrating a lifelong commitment15 to community engagement and service; and16 WHEREAS, a proud native of Atlanta and one of 14 siblings, Mr. Leslie was raised in the17 historic Mechanicville community and has remained deeply rooted in service and family18 values; and19 WHEREAS, he shared 36 years of marriage with his beloved late w ife, Henrietta, and20 together they raised four children, building a legacy of love, strength, and resilience in the21 Columbia Woods community, where he has resided for more than 50 years; and22 WHEREAS, Mr. Leslie is the proud grandfather of six grandchildren and great-grandfather23 of 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom reflect the enduring impact of his guidance, wisdom,24 and devotion; and25 WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding service, Mr. Leslie was honored with the26 Crossing Guard of the Year Award in 2021, a testament to his un wavering dedication,27 reliability, and excellence; and28 WHEREAS, known for his remarkable work ethic, Mr. Leslie begins each day at 5:00 AM,29 arriving early to his post to ensure the safety of students, de monstrating a level of30 commitment that goes far beyond duty and reflects true servant leadership; and31 WHEREAS, he has cultivated strong relationships with school staff and takes great pride in32 being an active and valued part of the school community, particularly at Toney Elementary33 H. R. 2040 - 2 - 26 LC 112 4166 School, where his presence brings comfort and reassurance to st udents and families alike;34 and35 WHEREAS, outside of his service, Mr. Leslie enjoys fishing, nurturing fruit trees around his36 home, watching western films, and spending quality time with hi s beloved family,37 embodying a life of balance, joy, and purpose; and38 WHEREAS, Mr. Jack Leslie stands as a true "community warrior," whose lifelong dedication39 to public service, safety, and family reflects the highest idea ls of citizenship and deserves40 recognition and honor.41 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that42 the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Jack Leslie for his outstanding43 service, unwavering dedication, and immeasurable contributions to the DeKalb County44 community and the State of Georgia.45 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized46 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mr.47 Jack Leslie.48 H.
