26 LC 112 4098 Senate Resolution 1078 By: Senators Wicks of the 34th, Kemp of the 38th, Mangham of the 55th, Anderson of the 43rd and Orrock of the 36th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Trillville for their cultural impact and contributions to1 Georgia's rich hip-hop legacy; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Trillville is an American hip-hop group formed in 2002 in Atlanta, Georgia,3 whose founding members are Donnell "Don P" Prince, Jamal "Dirty Mouth" Glaze, and4 Lawrence "LA" Edwards; and5 WHEREAS, the members first met as high school students in Atlanta, where their talents and6 ambitions began to take shape—Dirty Mouth led the snare drums in the school's marching7 band, Don P wrote rhymes and produced beats on his keyboard, and LA developed his skills8 as an aspiring promoter; and9 WHEREAS, Don P signed Dirty Mouth and LA to Trillville Records and later shared the10 group's vision with Vince Phillips, CEO of BME Recordings, whos e belief in the group's11 talent led to an introduction to Lil Jon and the signing of Tri llville to BME Recordings,12 launching their professional recording career; and13 S. R. 1078 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4098 WHEREAS, Trillville rose to national prominence in 2003 with th e release of the single14 "Neva Eva," featuring Lil Scrappy, which reached the Billboard Hot 100 and helped solidify15 Atlanta's reputation as a powerhouse in hip-hop music; and16 WHEREAS, the group's success continued with the 2004 album The King of Crunk & BME17 Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil Scrappy , which reached No. 12 on the Billboard 20018 chart and became a defining project of the crunk era in Southern hip-hop; and19 WHEREAS, Trillville's breakout hit "Some Cut" became an anthem of the era, achieving20 platinum certification and peaking at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also reaching21 No. 3 on the U.S. Hot Rap Songs chart and No. 7 on the Hip Hop/R&B chart; and22 WHEREAS, the influence of "Some Cut" continues to resonate across generations of artists,23 having been sampled and referenced by major recording artists i ncluding Russ, Drake,24 Doechii, and J. Cole, demonstrating the lasting cultural imprint of Trillville's music; and25 WHEREAS, throughout their career, Trillville has represented the vibrant culture, creativity,26 and entrepreneurial spirit of Atlanta, helping to shape the sou nd and identity of Southern27 hip-hop while energizing audiences with music that celebrates c ommunity, creativity, and28 celebration.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 commend Trillville for their enduring contributions to the music industry and for helping to31 establish Atlanta, Georgia, as one of the most influential cities in the history of hip-hop.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Trillville.34 S.
