26 LC 112 4160 Senate Resolution 1084 By: Senators Orrock of the 36th, Harrell of the 40th, Wicks of the 34th, Jones II of the 22nd, Rahman of the 5th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Nicholas House Inc. for its longstan ding commitment to1 serving families experiencing homelessness and honoring the Dream Builders Event on April2 23, 2026; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Nicholas House Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedica ted to empowering4 families experiencing homelessness to achieve lasting self-sufficiency through stable housing5 and comprehensive, wrap-around support services; and6 WHEREAS, founded in 1982 by members of St. Bartholomew's Episco pal Church in7 Atlanta, Nicholas House began as a compassionate response to fa milies in need of safe 8 overnight shelter and has since grown into a leading organizati on providing long-term9 solutions to homelessness; and10 WHEREAS, Nicholas House now serves hundreds of parents and chil dren each year and11 provides safe housing to approximately 250 individuals each nig ht, ensuring that families12 remain together while receiving the care and support necessary to rebuild their lives; and13 WHEREAS, the organization addresses the root causes of homeless ness through critical14 programs, including emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, and15 S. R. 1084 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4160 housing stability assistance, all designed to help families sec ure and maintain safe, stable16 housing; and17 WHEREAS, Nicholas House is committed to helping families achieve self-sufficiency by18 focusing on earning a living wage, maintaining physical and men tal well-being, and19 sustaining long-term housing stability; and20 WHEREAS, homelessness places a profound burden on families, particularly children, who21 often face instability, trauma, and barriers to education and h ealth, making the work of22 Nicholas House essential to strengthening communities and improving outcomes for future23 generations; and24 WHEREAS, the Dream Builders Event, to be held on April 23, 2026 , serves as a vital25 opportunity to raise awareness and funds in support of Nicholas House's mission while26 bringing together business leaders, community advocates, and philanthropists dedicated to27 helping families in need; and28 WHEREAS, the Dream Builders Event highlights the importance of community29 collaboration in addressing homelessness and inspires collectiv e action to ensure that30 families not only find housing but also never experience homelessness again.31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body32 commend Nicholas House Inc. for its outstanding service to the citizens of Georgia and33 recognize the significance of the Dream Builders Event on April 23, 2026, as a meaningful34 effort to support families experiencing homelessness.35 S.
