26 LC 112 4149 Senate Resolution 1087 By: Senators Kemp of the 38th, Harrell of the 40th, Jones II of the 22nd, Mangham of the 55th and Payne of the 54th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Maggie McCullom for her outstanding contributions to senior1 athletics and community wellness in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia values the strength, resilience, and continued contributions3 of its senior citizens, who play a vital role in shaping health y, active, and connected4 communities; and5 WHEREAS, Maggie McCullom has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to both public6 service and athletics, serving the citizens of Fulton County fo r over 48 years through her7 work with the Fulton County Government and the Fulton County Board of Education; and8 WHEREAS, following her retirement and recovery from a life-altering accident in downtown9 Atlanta, Ms. McCullom found renewed strength through swimming and began her journey10 in senior athletics in 2015; and11 WHEREAS, since that time, Ms. McCullom has earned numerous acco lades through her12 participation in the Georgia Golden Games and National Senior Games, receiving multiple13 gold, silver, and placement honors across a variety of sports including swimming, basketball,14 track and field, and more; and15 S. R. 1087 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4149 WHEREAS, in 2017, Ms. McCullom founded the first senior women's basketball team in16 Atlanta, which has since grown into eight teams, creating oppor tunities for women across17 generations to remain active and engaged in sports; and18 WHEREAS, Ms. McCullom has proudly represented the State of Geor gia on the national19 stage, including being selected to carry the Georgia state flag during the opening ceremony20 of the National Senior Games; and21 WHEREAS, her participation in competitions across the nation, i ncluding Alabama, New22 Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Iowa, has brought recognition to Georgia while inspiring23 seniors to embrace healthy and active lifestyles; and24 WHEREAS, Ms. McCullom continues to advocate for increased participation, visibility, and25 support for senior athletes, including the vision of hosting future National Senior Games in26 Georgia and expanding opportunities statewide; and27 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize individuals like Ms. McCullom who28 exemplify perseverance, leadership, and a commitment to lifelong wellness.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 recognize and commend Maggie McCullom for her outstanding achievements, leadership,31 and dedication to promoting health, wellness, and athletic excellence among seniors in the32 State of Georgia.33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed34 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Maggie35 McCullom.36 S.
