A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Senator Freddie Powell Sims on her o utstanding public1
service; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Senator Freddie Powell Sims has long been recognized by the citizens of this3
state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment4
to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5
WHEREAS, elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2008, she serves the 12th Senate District,6
representing Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Early, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph,7
Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, and Webster counties, following her service in the Georgia House8
of Representatives from 2004 to 2008; and9
WHEREAS, she further serves as secretary of the Senate Committe e on Education and10
Youth; a member of the Senate Committees on Agriculture and Con sumer Affairs,11
Appropriations, Interstate Cooperation, Natural Resources and the Environment, and Urban12
Affairs; and as an ex-officio member of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and13
Utilities; and14

WHEREAS, her legislative leadership includes shaping statewide dual enrollment protocol,15
securing appropriations for the Albany State University Fine Ar ts Center and Georgia16
Southwestern State University's Center for Excellence, and supporting critical infrastructure17
and community initiatives; and18
WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience and19
diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have20
earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and21
WHEREAS, Senator Freddie Powell Sims has served with honor and distinction with the22
Georgia State Senate, and her vision and unyielding commitment to excellence will be sorely23
missed upon the occasion of her retirement; and24
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this25
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
recognize and commend Senator Freddie Powell Sims for her efficient, effective, unselfish,28
and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratul ate her upon the grand29
occasion of her retirement; and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and30
happiness.31
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Senator Freddie33
Powell Sims.34
