HR2024: HR2024 Campos, Daniel; commend

26 LC 129 1538 House Resolution 2024 By: Representatives Lim of the 98th, Lupton of the 83rd, Clark of the 108th, and Olaleye of the 59th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Daniel Campos; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Daniel Campos is a first-generation college graduate a nd a dedicated2 community organizer with Poder Latinx; and3 WHEREAS, after earning his Bachelor’s degree in Political Scien c e w i t h a m i n o r i n4 Economics from Georgia State University, Daniel has committed himself to empowering the5 Latino community through civic engagement and youth mobilization; and6 WHEREAS, Daniel Campos, a father of two, became involved in adv ocacy after7 experiencing the loss of his first son, Isaac, who passed away 20 days after birth; and 8 WHEREAS, Daniel was a full-time worker, a part-time worker, and a full-time student at9 Georgia State University; without access to paid leave, his family faced significant economic10 and personal hardship during an already difficult period of grief; and 11 WHEREAS, Daniel had to choose his job over the health of his wi fe and his own mental12 health; this experience highlighted the critical need for paid leave policies that allow families13 H. R. 2024 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1538 the time and stability to care for themselves and their loved ones during moments of crisis;14 and 15 WHEREAS, this experience was the beginning of Daniel’s journey in educating his16 community about the importance of Paid Leave; and17 WHEREAS, Daniel has organized community events to educate the p ublic about the18 importance of paid leave and mobilized Georgians to advocate fo r this benefit that would19 ensure all Georgians can take time to care for themselves or a loved one when needed; and 20 WHEREAS, he has helped convene community members, organizations , and elected21 officials, including leading a press conference commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the22 Family and Medical Leave Actand advocate for bills that continue to push a care agenda for23 all Georgians; and24 WHEREAS, since 2023, Daniel has supported Poder Latinx’s missio n to expand civic25 participation and has contributed to the registration of 258 new voters throughout the state26 of Georgia; and 27 WHEREAS, he has built strong partnerships with 10 high schools across Gwinnett County,28 where he organized voter registration drives during lunch perio ds, recruited and mentored29 new youth volunteers, and created spaces to hear directly from students about the issues30 impacting their communities; and 31 WHEREAS, he also led a successful community health fair that connected student athletes32 with free health services and sports physicals, expanding access to essential care; and33 H. R. 2024 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1538 WHEREAS, Daniel has further strengthened civic engagement by le ading multiple34 citizenship information sessions to educate community members a bout the naturalization35 process; and 36 WHEREAS, in 2024, he supported legal permanent residents throug h their citizenship37 applications in partnership with Asian American Advancing Justice–Atlanta and Mi Familia38 en Acción, helping expand access to resources and opportunities for new Americans; and39 WHEREAS, Daniel has mobilized more than 40 youth students by he lping them become40 public speakers at community events, organizing class presentat ions, volunteering at41 community events, and leading students to the Capitol during legislative sessions to speak42 with their elected officials about issues they care about; and 43 WHEREAS, he has led “Know Your Rights” trainings and community events as well as44 after-school class meetings, while also distributing “Know Your Rights” cards throughout45 the community to ensure families have access to critical information and resources; and 46 WHEREAS, Daniel has collected and elevated stories from community members about the47 issues most affecting their lives, including immigration, paid leave, and voting rights, and48 has brought these voices directly to the State Capitol through his advocacy on behalf of the49 Latino community; and 50 WHEREAS, Daniel advocated, coordinated, and led a school field trip that brought 6051 students and 6 teachers from Shiloh High School to the Georgia State Capitol, providing52 students with a firsthand opportunity to learn about state government and the importance of53 civic engagement; and 54 H. R. 2024 - 3 - 26 LC 129 1538 WHEREAS, for many of the students, it was their first time visiting the Capitol, and several55 shared that they had never imagined they would have the chance to be there; and 56 WHEREAS, Daniel Campos is deeply committed to educating our youth, as they are the next57 generation that will make a difference in every election, and through his work, he continues58 to break down barriers by providing bilingual education and exp anding access to civic59 engagement opportunities within the community.60 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that61 the members of this body commend Daniel Campos for his contribu tions to the youth in62 Georgia.63 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized64 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to65 Daniel Campos.66 H.
