26 LC 112 4210 House Resolution 2075 By: Representatives Tran of the 80th, Miller of the 62nd, Willis of the 55th, Olaleye of the 59th, and Evans of the 57th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the 90th annual Atlanta Dogwood Fest ival; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival is one of the oldest and most beloved traditions3 in the City of Atlanta, held annually in Piedmont Park and serving as a signature celebration4 of springtime in Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival was first established in 1936 under the leadership6 of Walter Rich, founder of Rich's Department Store, as an effor t to promote the City of7 Atlanta and highlight the natural beauty of its blooming dogwood trees; and8 WHEREAS, the festival was created during the era of the Great Depression with the purpose9 of lifting community spirits, encouraging civic pride, and drawing national and international10 attention to Atlanta as a vibrant and growing city; and11 WHEREAS, early organizers, including local garden clubs and civ ic leaders, undertook a12 citywide beautification effort by planting dogwood trees throughout Atlanta, reinforcing the13 festival's mission to celebrate nature and enhance the city's landscape; and14 H. R. 2075 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4210 WHEREAS, over the past nine decades, the Atlanta Dogwood Festiv al has evolved into a15 premier fine arts festival, featuring a nationally recognized juried artist market, live music,16 cultural performances, and family-friendly activities that attr act hundreds of thousands of17 attendees each year; and18 WHEREAS, the festival remains a cornerstone of Atlanta's cultur al identity, fostering19 appreciation for the arts, supporting local and national artists, and strengthening community20 bonds while celebrating the natural beauty of Georgia's native dogwood trees; and21 WHEREAS, the 90th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival represents a remarkable milestone,22 reflecting the enduring resilience, community support, and cultural significance of an event23 that has continued for generations and remains one of the premier arts festivals in the United24 States; and25 WHEREAS, the continued success of the Atlanta Dogwood Festival is a testament to the26 dedication of its organizers, volunteers, sponsors, artists, and supporters who have preserved27 and advanced this treasured tradition for nearly a century.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29 the members of this body recognize and commend the 90th annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival30 for its historic legacy, cultural contributions, and enduring impact on the State of Georgia.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the33 organizers of the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.34 H.
