26 LC 112 4129 House Resolution 2062 By: Representatives Romman of the 97th, Miller of the 62nd, Holly of the 116th, McQueen of the 61st, and Cannon of the 58th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Ayisha Jeffries; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Ayisha Jeffries was born on February 26, 1951; and2 WHEREAS, a Jersey City native, Ayisha Jeffries relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to serve in3 the administration of the late Mayor Maynard Holbrook Jackson as a Budget Policy Analyst4 and Legislative Review/Governmental Affairs Liaison; and5 WHEREAS, she was a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in economics and6 had an M.A. from Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy,7 the New School, New York; and8 WHEREAS, she served as Vice President of Global Affairs and Senior Policy Advisor to the9 President of the African American Islamic Institute, Senegal, W est Africa (AAII), on the 10 Muslim World Outreach in the United States and Europe, helping lead sustainable11 development that promotes education, health care, the empowerment of women and children,12 the alleviation of poverty, and the promotion of peace; and13 H. R. 2062 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4129 WHEREAS, Ayisha Jeffries managed a portfolio of 35 global partnerships to facilitate the14 AAII mission, including its ongoing collaborations with AmeriCares, resulting in over $1B15 dollars in medicine and supplies distributed throughout Africa via the Institute's Shifa Al16 Asqam Social Medical Center, the funding of the Fayda radio station located in Medina Baye17 to the tune of $600,000 dollars, a collaboration with the United States Embassy, Senegal and18 its $250,000 Mobile Clinic Public Health initiative with United States Doctors for Africa:19 "Building Bridges: Making the possible from the impossible," al ong with many other20 initiatives throughout Africa and the United States—she was the organization's main21 representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Council; and22 WHEREAS, she was named the Chief Strategy Officer for the Darultul Kitabi wal Hikmati,23 an international non-governmental organization chaired by Imam Shaykh Ahmad Tijani, the24 Chief Imam of the Grand Mosque of Medina Baye Kaolack, Senegal West Africa; and25 WHEREAS, in her many civic roles at her home base of Atlanta, Ayisha Jeffries served as26 Co-Chair of the Congressman John Lewis Commemorative Plaza and the John Lewis Task27 Force, a consult to Nasrul Ilm America and Camp Butterfly Girls , and a member of the28 ASMA Society, Global Muslim Women's Fund, The Shura Counsel, and The Sufi Society;29 and30 WHEREAS, she was an avid supporter of the High Museum, the Dance Theater of Harlem,31 and AID Atlanta; and32 WHEREAS, Ayisha Jeffries was a recipient of many awards and a m entor to emerging33 leaders in political activism.34 H. R. 2062 - 2 - 26 LC 112 4129 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that35 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Ayisha Jeffries and express36 their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.37 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized38 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the39 public and the press.40 H.
