26 LC 129 1540 House Resolution 2056 By: Representatives Werkheiser of the 157th and Meeks of the 178th A RESOLUTION Commending Sheriff Mark Melton; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Sheriff Mark Melton has served with honor and distinct ion as Sheriff of2 Appling County, Georgia, since January 1, 2017; and3 WHEREAS, Sheriff Melton graduated from Valdosta State University in 1985 with a degree4 in Criminal Justice and began his law enforcement career with the Department of Corrections5 as a State Probation Officer; and6 WHEREAS, throughout his career he held prestigious roles such a s Office Manager,7 Compliance and Training Coordinator, Field Training Officer, St atewide Program8 Coordinator for all Specialized Probation Supervision, and Investigator; and9 WHEREAS, Sheriff Melton was also a team leader in an undercover capacity during the10 1996 Centennial Olympic Games held in Atlanta as well as was on the security detail for the11 G8 Presidential Summit in Savannah, Georgia; and12 H. R. 2056 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1540 WHEREAS, he is an honest and dedicated public servant who striv es for excellence in all13 of his endeavors and whose primary concern is the welfare and s afety of the citizens of14 Appling County; and 15 WHEREAS, Sheriff Melton selflessly devotes innumerable hours of his time and talents to16 educating future generations of law enforcement officials; and 17 WHEREAS, he has taught thousands of hours for various law enforcement agencies across18 the state as well as serves as a Criminal Justice Instructor for Altamaha Technical College 19 and an instructor with the District Attorney's Office; and20 WHEREAS, he is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and by state and local21 government officials as a man of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the administration22 of justice and sound principles of law enforcement; and23 WHEREAS, this spirited law enforcement professional has exhibited extraordinary devotion24 to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his25 duties; and26 WHEREAS, his inspiring commitment to the welfare of others is an outstanding example of27 the positive effect law enforcement professionals have on the lives and well-being of others;28 and29 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that gratitude is expressed for the unique and30 often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement profess ionals on behalf of the31 citizens of this state.32 H. R. 2056 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1540 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that33 the members of this body commend the care, courage, sympathy, a nd selfless dedication34 exhibited by Sheriff Mark Melton in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation and35 express their utmost appreciation for having so purely and trul y defined for others the36 meaning of public servant.37 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized38 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to39 Sheriff Mark Melton.40 H.
