A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America and1
honoring the nation's enduring legacy of freedom, unity, and civic engagement; and for other2
purposes.3
WHEREAS, July 4, 2026, marks the Semiquincentennial of the Unit ed States,4
commemorating 250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence following5
the passage of the Lee Resolution by the Second Continental Congress in 1776; and6
WHEREAS, throughout the nation's history, milestone anniversari es have provided7
opportunities for reflection, un ity, and celeb ration, including the Centennial in 1876, the8
Sesquicentennial in 1926, and the Bicentennial in 1976, each ma rked by nationwide9
observances that brought communities together in recognition of the nation's founding10
principles; and11
WHEREAS, the Bicentennial celebration of 1976 remains a definin g moment for many12
Americans, as communities across the country participated in parades, educational programs,13
and cultural events that deepened public appreciation for the nation's heritage; and14

WHEREAS, such commemorations have inspired continued efforts to preserve the nation's15
historic buildings, sites, and landscapes, recognizing that the se places serve as tangible16
connections to the ideals, history, and shared experiences that define the American story; and17
WHEREAS, the Semiquincentennial offers an opportunity for all Americans to reflect on the18
nation's history, celebrate its progress, and renew their commitment to civic participation and19
public service.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21
the members of this body recognize and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States22
of America and encourage citizens to participate in commemorative activities that honor the23
nation's history and promote unity and civic engagement.24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized25
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the26
public and the press.27
