26 LC 112 4072 Senate Resolution 1096 By: Senators Rahman of the 5th, Mallow of the 2nd, McLaurin of the 14th, Howard of the 35th and Orrock of the 36th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the contributions of Bangladeshi Americans in Georgia; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Bangladesh declared its independence on March 26, 1971, and the United States3 recognized Bangladesh on April 4, 1972—this year celebrates 55 years of diplomatic4 relations; and5 WHEREAS, for the past 55 years, the United States and Banglades h have maintained a6 strong and cooperative relationship, engaging closely on a wide range of issues, including7 trade, economic development, security, governance, and global affairs; and8 WHEREAS, the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh is strengthened by9 vibrant people-to-people connections, including a growing Bangl adeshi American10 community in Georgia that contributes to the state's economic, cultural, and civic life; and11 WHEREAS, Bangladeshi Americans in Georgia continue to serve as a bridge between the12 two nations by promoting education, business, cultural exchange , and community13 engagement; and14 S. R. 1096 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4072 WHEREAS, Bangladesh recently held national elections in which c itizens exercised their15 right to vote freely, marking an important step in the country's continued transition toward16 democratic governance after more than a decade of political challenges; and17 WHEREAS, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law are essential for democratic18 governance, economic development, and sustainable growth, and m eaningful efforts to19 address widespread corruption are vital for strengthening publi c trust, ensuring good20 governance, and promoting long-term prosperity in Bangladesh.21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body22 recognize and commend the contributions of Bangladeshi American s in Georgia and the23 strong people-to-people ties connecting the State of Georgia with Bangladesh.24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body commend th e people of25 Bangladesh for their participation in recent national elections and encourage continued26 progress toward democratic governance, transparency, accountability, and effective measures27 to combat corruption in order to advance inclusive development and economic growth.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the30 press.31 S.
