26 LC 112 4213 House Resolution 2122 By: Representative Herring of the 145th A RESOLUTION Commending the remarkable career and lifelong dedication of Amy Morton for her1 exemplary service in advocacy, leadership, and community organizing within Macon-Bibb2 County and the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Amy Morton has dedicated over 20 years to policy and civic organizing at the4 local, state, and federal levels, establishing herself as a str ong and successful advocate for5 advancing progressive issues; and6 WHEREAS, her leadership in the nonprofit sector includes co-founding Better Georgia in7 2011, where her experience helped grow the state's largest and most effective progressive8 nonprofit; and9 WHEREAS, she has served as the founding CEO of Southern Majorit y, providing vital10 assistance to numerous nonprofit organizations, universities, and foundations—her strategic11 guidance has been instrumental in crafting victories for a wide range of candidates, from12 local municipal leaders to state legislators and national figures; and13 WHEREAS, as a leader in community campaigns, Amy Morton led the Macon-Bibb14 Forward Together initiative in 2021 to pass the first-ever OLOST for Macon-Bibb County,15 H. R. 2122 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4213 a measure that passed with over 80 percent of the vote and resu lted in one of the largest16 property tax cuts in state history; and17 WHEREAS, she has successfully led multiple independent expenditure campaigns and ballot18 initiatives, including local SPLOST and ESPLOST campaigns that support critical19 community infrastructure; and20 WHEREAS, her commitment to the welfare of Macon-Bibb families is further evidenced by21 her professional work as a licensed marriage and family therapist and her volunteer service22 on the Bibb County School District ESPLOST Advisory Committee for several years; and 23 WHEREAS, she has further demonstrated her dedication to local s afety and well-being24 through her firm's management of the Macon Violence Prevention program on behalf of the25 county; and26 WHEREAS, beyond her professional consulting, Amy Morton has ser ved in significant27 leadership roles, including Chair of the Board of Directors for Georgia WIN List from 200928 to 2011, where she helped elect a record 26 of 28 endorsed women to the Georgia legislature,29 and she has contributed to the Democratic Party of Georgia as a member of the Executive30 Committee and as Platform Committee Chair; and31 WHEREAS, Amy Morton has been recognized by the community and pe ers for her32 outstanding commitment, receiving the Viola Ross Napier Trailbl azer Award in 2011 and33 the Extra Mile Award from Bibb County Public Schools in 2004; and34 H. R. 2122 - 2 - 26 LC 112 4213 WHEREAS, her legacy is defined by a deep personal commitment to civic engagement,35 fundraising for progressive causes, and a firm belief that publ ic education is critical36 infrastructure essential for community success.37 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that38 the members of this body commend Amy Morton for her extraordina ry contributions to39 advocacy, her unwavering leadership within Macon-Bibb County and the State of Georgia,40 and her lifelong dedication to championing community improvement.41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized42 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Amy43 Morton.44 H.
