26 LC 112 4194 House Resolution 2118 By: Representatives Schofield of the 63rd, Davis of the 87th, Scott of the 76th, and Burnough of the 77th A RESOLUTION Commemorating the 130th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of College Park; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the land that encompasses the City of College Park was originally the ancestral3 home of the Muskogee (Creek) Nation, whose deep connection to this terrain established a4 legacy of stewardship that remains a cornerstone of the community's heritage; and5 WHEREAS, the City of College Park is uniquely positioned at the headwaters of the Flint6 River, marking this community as a vital guardian of one of Georgia's most essential natural7 resources as it begins its journey toward the Gulf; and8 WHEREAS, the mid-19th century arrival of the Atlanta and West Point Railroad transformed9 the landscape into a bustling corridor of commerce, with the Main Street train depot serving10 as the central engine for the city's early development and economic growth; and11 WHEREAS, the community reached a historic milestone when it was formally incorporated12 on December 16, 1891, beginning its official journey with a pio neering population of13 approximately 600 residents; and14 H. R. 2118 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4194 WHEREAS, the city's identity was further elevated by the establishment of the College Park15 Historic District, which stands today as one of the largest urban historic districts in the State16 of Georgia, meticulously preserving over 850 buildings that reflect the timeless architectural17 character of our past; and18 WHEREAS, the 20th century saw the city's trajectory forever changed by the evolution of19 Candler Field into the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, cementing College20 Park's status as "Georgia's Global Gateway"; and21 WHEREAS, this 130-year milestone provides an opportunity for all citizens to reflect on the22 resilience, diversity, and innovation that define the City of College Park.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24 the members of this body commemorate the 130th anniversary of t he incorporation of the25 City of College Park and extend best wishes to each of its resi dents for future health,26 happiness, and success.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the29 public and the press.30 H.
