26 LC 112 4223 House Resolution 2090 By: Representatives Dempsey of the 13th, Lumsden of the 12th, and Barton of the 5th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the 2026 Heart of Community Board of Governors Award1 recipients Rick and Sundai Stevenson; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Rick and Sundai Stevenson are compassionate people who are motivated by3 faith, grounded in love for people, and serve with their whole hearts; and4 WHEREAS, Rick's strength as a communicator, collaborator, and bridge-builder was evident5 as he helped lead the 2017 Education SPLOST effort, speaking wi th clarity in the face of6 complexity, easing tensions, and offering hope—he serves on multiple boards, reflecting a7 lifetime of commitment to community growth, youth mentorship, and cultural enrichment;8 and9 WHEREAS, Sundai has served on the Rome City Commission and beca me the city's first10 Black female mayor, and her work with the MLK Commission, the Chamber of Commerce,11 local nonprofits, and her church highlights a life of service; and12 WHEREAS, together, Rick and Sundai form a team whose impact reaches far beyond titles13 or positions, and their influence can be felt in the lives of the families they have supported14 and the collaborations they have built; and15 H. R. 2090 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4223 WHEREAS, Rick is currently serving on the AdventHealth Redmond Board of Trustees,16 Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Georgia Board, One Community United Executive Board,17 and Rome International Film Festival Board; and18 WHEREAS, Sundai is currently serving on the Floyd County Development Authority Board,19 Open Door Home Board, Rome Symphony Board, Blister for My Sister Advisory Board, and20 as the M. L. King Jr. Celebration Committee Chairperson; and21 WHEREAS, Rick and Sundai are making lasting, positive differenc es in their community22 and the City of Rome.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24 the members of this body recognize Rick and Sundai Stevenson fo r their outstanding25 dedication to the community, commend them as recipients of the 2026 Heart of Community26 Board of Governors Award, and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued success.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Rick29 and Sundai Stevenson.30 H.
