26 LC 112 4218 House Resolution 2119 By: Representative Baker of the 64th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Vicki Pilgrim for her outstanding service and contributions1 to the Georgia Golden Olympics and the National Senior Games Association; and for other2 purposes.3 WHEREAS, Vicki Pilgrim has devoted more than four decades of distinguished service to4 the promotion of health, wellness, and active aging through her leadership in the Georgia5 Golden Olympics and her work with the National Senior Games Association; and6 WHEREAS, she has served the Georgia Golden Games since its inception in 1980, playing7 a foundational role in building and sustaining a program that h as positively impacted8 thousands of older adults across the state; and9 WHEREAS, for over 40 years, she has been instrumental in expand ing opportunities for10 older adults across Georgia to remain active, engaged, and conn ected through athletic11 competition and community participation; and12 WHEREAS, she has provided national leadership through her service on the National Senior13 Games Association Board of Directors from 1996 through 2003 and again from 2016 through14 H. R. 2119 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4218 2021, including serving as Secretary from 1999 through 2002 and as Southeast Regional15 Coordinator; and16 WHEREAS, in 2017, during the 30th anniversary of the National Senior Games Association,17 she was selected as one of the "30 Champions of the Games," an honor recognizing18 individuals who made outstanding contributions to the creation, promotion, and growth of19 the Senior Games Movement; and20 WHEREAS, her professional career spanned 35 years in public health, including her role as21 Section Director for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Prom otion with the Georgia22 Department of Public Health, where she advanced initiatives that improved the health and23 well-being of citizens across this state; and24 WHEREAS, her dedication to parks, recreation, and community ser vice is further25 demonstrated through her extensive involvement with the Georgia Recreation and Park26 Association, where she has served on the Board of Directors and as Chair of both the27 Therapeutic Recreation Section and the Senior Adult Section; and28 WHEREAS, her exemplary service has been recognized with numerous honors, including29 the National Senior Games Association Harris Frank Distinguished Service Award (2015),30 multiple Georgia Recreation and Park Association awards—includi ng Therapeutic31 Recreation Professional, Presidential Citation, and Senior Adul t Professional of the32 Year—and induction into the GRPA Hall of Fame in 2012, as well as the University of33 Georgia Department of Recreation and Leisure Services Distingui shed Alumni Award in34 1991; and35 H. R. 2119 - 2 - 26 LC 112 4218 WHEREAS, Vicki Pilgrim's passion, vision, and unwavering commit ment have touched36 countless lives, fostering a sense of community, purpose, and joy among participants across37 generations; and38 WHEREAS, her work stands as a model of public service, demonstr ating the profound39 impact one individual can have in strengthening communities and uplifting others.40 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that41 the members of this body recognize and commend Vicki Pilgrim fo r her extraordinary42 contributions and extend their deepest appreciation for her years of dedicated service to the43 people of Georgia.44 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized45 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Vicki46 Pilgrim.47 H.
