Creation and appointment of the position of commissioner of public safety; powers and duties; rules and regulations. (a) There is created the position of commissioner of public safety. The commissioner shall be the chief administrative officer and shall be both appointed and removed by the board with the approval of the Governor. Except as otherwise provided by law and subject to the general policy established by the board, the commissioner shall supervise, direct, account for, organize, plan, administer, and execute the functions vested in the department by law. (b) The commissioner shall be authorized to promulgate rules and regulations as necessary to carry out his or her official duties. ## History Ga. L. 1972, p. 1015, § 1602; Ga. L. 1996, p. 271, § 1.
