Maintenance of certification programs. (a) As used in this Code section, the term: (1) ‘‘Maintenance of certification’’ means a continuous professional development program through which physicians certified by one or more of the medical specialty boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association maintain specialty certification. (2) ‘‘Specialty certification’’ means certification by a board that specializes in one particular area of medicine and typically has requirements in addition to those the Georgia Composite Medical Board requires to practice medicine. (b) Nothing in this article shall be construed to require a physician to secure a maintenance of certification as a condition of licensure to practice medicine pursuant to this article or as a prerequisite for employment in state medical facilities, reimbursement from third parties, or malpractice insurance coverage. ## History Code 1981, § 43-34-46, enacted by Ga.
