# O.C.G.A. § 46-5-181. Definitions.

As used in this article, the term:

(1) “Local exchange carrier” shall have the same meaning as the term “local exchange company.”

(2) “Local exchange company” shall have the same meaning as set forth in Code Section 46-5-162.

(3) “Long distance service” includes interexchange inter-LATA telecommunications service and interexchange intra-LATA telecommunications service.

(4) “Telecommunications company” shall have the same meaning as set forth in Code Section 46-5-162.

(5) “Telecommunications services” shall have the same meaning as set forth in Code Section 46-5-162.

Code 1981, § 46-5-181, enacted by Ga. L. 1998, p. 919, § 1; Ga. L. 2025, p. 1029, § 46(54)/SB 153, effective July 1, 2025.

## Amendments

The 2025 amendment, effective July 1, 2025, part of an Act to revise, modernize, and correct the Code, rewrote this Code section, which read: “As used in this article, the terms ‘local exchange company,’ ‘telecommunications company,’ and ‘telecommunications services’ shall have the same meaning as provided in Code Section 46-5-162; the term ‘local exchange carrier’ shall have the same meaning as ‘local exchange company’; and the term ‘long distance service’ shall include interexchange inter-LATA telecommunications service and interexchange intra-LATA telecommunications service.”.
