Editor's notes

Ga. L. 2024, p. 445, § 1/HB 1341, not codified by the General Assembly, provides: “The General Assembly finds and declares as follows: “(1) White shrimp provide significant economic, cultural, and environmental benefits to Georgians; “(2) Shrimp make up approximately 80 percent of the value of the seafood caught in a typical year in this state; “(3) White shrimp account for more than two-thirds of the total shrimp harvest; “(4) White shrimp are harvested all along Georgia’s coast and are an important part of the culture of coastal communities; “(5) White shrimp are omnivores that feed at the bottom of the water on detritus, plants, microorganisms, macroinvertebrates, and small fish and are themselves an important food source for many other organisms; and “(6) White shrimp enjoy a singular stature amongst Georgia’s crustaceans in economic, cultural, and environmental importance, that is rivaled only by its popularity as a tasty food. Establishing white shrimp as the official Georgia state crustacean is necessary to fully recognize the importance of this organism to this state.”
