# Ga. Const. Art. VIII, Sec. III, Para. I. State School Superintendent.

A constitution provision shown as in force is in force as printed in the volume. A court decision can make a printed provision unenforceable without changing the volume, and the volume does not record that.

There shall be a State School Superintendent, who shall be the executive officer of the State Board of Education, elected at the same time and in the same manner and for the same term as that of the Governor. The State School Superintendent shall have such qualifications and shall be paid such compensation as may be fixed by law. No member of the State Board of Education shall be eligible for election as State School Superintendent during the time for which such member shall have been appointed.

## Editor's Notes

The constitutional amendment (Ga. L. 1984, p. 1716, § 4) and (Ga. L. 1988, p. 2100, § 6) which would have provided for the office of commissioner of education in place of the office of State School Superintendent and to authorize the State Board of Education to appoint said commissioner of education was defeated at the general election on November 6, 1984, and November 8, 1988.
