# U.S. Const. Amend. XXVII. Laws Varying Compensation for Services of Senators and Representatives

A constitution provision shown as in force is in force as printed in the volume. A court decision can make a printed provision unenforceable without changing the volume, and the volume does not record that.

No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.

The amendment above was proposed by Congress in 1789 and ratified by the required majority of states by virtue of the 38th ratification in 1992.

The amendment was certified by the Archivist of the United States on May 18, 1992. See 57 Fed. Reg. 21,187 (1992).
