A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Representative Michele Henson and dedicating an interchange in her honor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Representative Michele Henson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the residents of DeKalb County and the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Representative Henson earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1990; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure with the Georgia House of Representatives, Representative Henson served as vice chairperson of the DeKalb delegation and was a member of the House Appropriations, Health and Human Services, Economic Development and Tourism, and Small Business Development committees; and

WHEREAS, Representative Henson was a staunch advocate for affordable and accessible healthcare for all Georgians and was instrumental in amending the law to add dental coverage for children through Georgia's PeachCare program; and

WHEREAS, her service to the community and public extends beyond her work with the General Assembly with organizations such as Art Station, PRISM (Pride Rings in Stone Mountain), the Anti-Defamation League, the Stone Mountain Women's Club, the League of Women Voters, and the Memorial Drive Business Association; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an interchange in her honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL

ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that interchange of State Route 407 (I-285) and State Route 8 (US-29) in DeKalb County is dedicated as the Representative Michele Henson Interchange. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Representative Michele Henson Interchange.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Representative Michele Henson and the Department of Transportation.
