A RESOLUTION

Recognizing State Representative Roger Bruce and dedicating an intersection in his honor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, State Representative Roger Bruce has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bruce graduated from Morehouse College, where he served as president of the political science club and reinstituted the Frederick Douglass Tutorial Institute to help high school students prepare for college; and

WHEREAS, in 2002, he was elected to serve the citizens of House District 61 in the Georgia House of Representatives and served as the first African American chairman of the Douglas County delegation for eight years; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in the House of Representatives, he focused on issues related to children with special needs, aging, education, working families, economic development, voting rights, and criminal justice; and

WHEREAS, he served on the Insurance, Education, Motor Vehicles, MARTOC, Intergovernmental Coordination, Judiciary, Appropriations, Small Business and Job Development, Human Relations and Aging, and Game, Fish and Parks Committees; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bruce's leadership and guidance have been instrumental to numerous organizations, including the Interdenominational Theological Center, Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority, Inc., and All Children Are Special; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL

ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 6 (Camp Creek Parkway) and State Route 70 (Fulton County Industrial Boulevard SW) in Fulton County is dedicated as the State Representative Roger Bruce Intersection.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the State Representative Roger Bruce Intersection.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to State Representative Roger Bruce and to the Department of Transportation.
